The NYSC Director-General, Maharzu Tsiga has said the scheme plans to open 15 area offices in the country. Brig.-Gen. Maharzu Tsiga, declared that the establishment of the area offices was to decentralise the operations of the scheme to enhance its efficiency. He said it is to ensure the security, welfare and comfort of corps members.
The Nigerian Agricultural Co-operative and Rural Development Bank has signed an agreement with a Chinese company for the supply of 10,000 tractors. Chairman of the bank, Gordon Bozimo, said the agreement was worth $400 million, while the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources would subsidize the tractors by 25 per cent for farmers. He said only 15, 000 tractors were still operating in the country.

The rioting follows Israel's plan to build 1,600 new East Jerusalem homes, angering the US. The reopening of a synagogue in the Old City also drew Palestinian protests.
The mystery surrounding the disappearance of Chinese rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng continues following comments from China's foreign minister. Yang Jiechi said the well-known lawyer had been sentenced after being charged with subverting state power. But it was not immediately clear whether that referred to an old charge, or a new one brought against Mr Gao. |
